So, I've been giving this show a shot for the first few episodes, mainly because Joss Whedon is behind it and he was the mind behind Buffy and Angel.
I'm 3 episodes in and it's still a bit confusing. The premise are these "actives" or "dolls" into which you can put an imprint of any personality or skill you require them to have in order to finish the assignment the client wants accomplished, and them wipe them clean after the job is done. People hire them for all types of jobs like fantasies, crimes, rescue missions, etc.
The main character is Echo, who is played by Eliza Dushku and we mainly see her going on the assignments. She has a handler who monitors her missions and of course there's the guy in charge of giving her the personality and wiping her memory afterward, there's a doctor and of course the woman who's in charge of everything.
Now some of them make sense to me, like last night when they needed an expert criminal to crack a safe in a hotel and lead the whole operation, or an expert on kidnappings but then there are some jobs like a midwife or a body guard and maybe it's just me but wouldn't it be easier to pay an actual person?
Last night it kinda brought memories of Alias. Sydney would always go on a mission, wear crazy outfits and stuff and kick ass. The difference being that Sydney had actual skills while Echo just has what skills they put on her, she returns to an almost child-like state when they wipe her memories. But I gotta say, it's still hasn't convinced me. I loved Alias and the idea behind Dollhouse is kinda cool, but it still hasn't trasnlated well. The pace seems to be strange through the episodes and there are sometimes it seems the "dolls" get on trouble just for the hell of it. And I love Eliza Dushku, but sometimes it seems like it seems like it's a lot to carry the weight of the show, and she's fallen short a couple of times, at least in my opinion.
I'm gonna keep watching, if only because there are a lot of questions in the air that could make the show more interesting in episodes to come.
