Very nice, quiet day today. I tried to get inspired for the Mike bday projekt but it just wouldn't come to me (click on the banner on the right if you're curious). When I least expect it, I know it'll come to me. I didn't feel like going out today because it's been freezing here the last couple of days, if it were a little more humid we'd be having snow. So I decided to stay home and catch a couple of movies, and a little more tennis too.
Ferrero won yesterday in 3 sets and he impressed me, but he has a though match-up against another Spaniard, David Ferrer. Now that it's going to be a long match, because they're both base-linners and if I'm not mistaken Ferrer has the edge in their last couple of matches. But if Juan Carlos is playing well I think he can beat him. Federer just won and has James Blake in the next round. He was never beaten Roger and even though Fed is still not at his usual level, I still think he won't this time either.
I have the day off tomorrow, but my mom wants to go out shopping. Ugh. That's all I have to say about going out to walk around while she checks out every little single thing that comes in her way. I'm going to see how my knee feels tomorrow, I mean it felt much better today, but if hurts tomorrow I just won't go. I have to give her one thing though, we've been having fun staying up late and watching the matches. Between criticizing the outfits everyone's wearing, and her insulting every player she doesn't want to win, we've been sharing quite a few laughs.
Well after a lot of time of writing my fics for myself, Mickey convinced me to let her read one. I still have a lot of editing to do, but after she checks it out I might post it for everyone to read. I never really felt like sharing one of my stories before, and I have a lot of them, and most of them are quite long. But the thing is I don't have a clear structure in my head, I have different situations that I write down and then I try to fit them together so they don't contradict each other, so in all honesty they'd be really hard for anyone but me to understand. But this particular one is different. First of all it has a lot more description of what it was actually going on, compared to my older fics where I had mostly dialog. Also, this one I started to type right away, while my older ones are on paper and are much harder to edit. I've been writing for a long time and I've always loved it, but now I'll see if someone else can love it too, lol! If this goes well I might start typing and posting my older stories, we'll see. Even this one is going to give me a lot of work putting some sort of order to it, so other human beings can actually keep up with the story, I have a lot of blank spaces. I'll let you know how it goes.
For now, I'm off to follow Juan's match for a while before I go to bed.

The weekend's here
You're going to call me crazy. I stayed up until 4am last night watching a tennis game on tv. Can you believe that? The things you do when you're a fan of something... And I tell you I was nervous! Roger wasn't at his 100% yesterday and even though I tried to remain calm, nerves got the best of me a couple of times. Nothing like my mom though, she was in the edge of her chair, she kept saying how much she hated Tipsarevic and wanting Roger to win every point, she even talked to him, like he'd listen to her. She made laugh for sure, I kept telling her to relax that if the guy is number 1 in the world, he didn't get there by giving up on challenges or getting everything handed to him. It was an amazing match it was over 4 hours long and even though I probably have a few premature gray hairs, I enjoyed it. Other than that they were very few matches yesterday because of the rain, so they could only use the covered courts. Ferrero plays today against Nalbandian, and I think he might have a chance of winning. He was in good shape in Sydney and Nalbandian is looking a little heavy. They're 2-2 in the head to head with Ferrero winning the last couple of times. The surface also favors Ferrero, so we'll see. I'll have to follow the scores on line because they won't show matches until 9.
Today was a day of relax, especially after the lack of sleep. The great thing is that I don't have school on Monday, so I'll probably go out and catch a movie or something. This first week was very tiring, even more so with my knee bothering me. Yesterday was horrible! I couldn't go up or down the stairs or even walk without feeling a sharp pain even though I wore a knee-brace all day. So I decided to get home after class so I wouldn't walk on it too much, I put some ice on it and my dad gave me a couple of pain pills, and as a result I feel a lot better today. I haven't been putting any extra-pressure on it just in case, and hopefully next week I'll be all better.
I talked with a few friends yesterday but I dunno I felt weird, like I was just going along but I wasn't really into anything. I get like that sometimes, like I don't relate to anyone. It's hard to feel like you're not connecting with your friends, it's like 'wow I used to talk to this person all the time and we used to get along so well, it was awesome I dunno what happened'. And what happened is that you changed, you probably don't think the same way anymore or your priorities have changed. Like I said before it has even happened to me with my sister. We never used to talk much, but now when we're on the phone we're rarely know what to say to each other anymore. It hits you, when you realize that you just don't have that much in common anymore. You probably don't agree in most of your opinions and you just don't have the same dynamic in your conversations. Sure, some day you might remember something that will connect you again, but odds are it won't happen, and what you're left is another friends who sends you an e-mail for your birthday and that usually wants to talk to you to 'catch up' and tell you random things about what they've been up to. That's when you realize who are the friends that really appreciate you. The friends that will talk to you like no time has passed at all, and that you know think of you constantly. Those that can tell that you have changed but they won't care. They might tell you 'you're being an idiot' but then they'll go right back to talking to you without a second thought. I was thinking about that yesterday and I'm glad to say, I know who those people are in my life and I hope they'll be there for years to come.

I'm just taking it in
Today was a pretty normal day. Well my alarm didn't go off this morning so I overslept, but since I had planned to leave earlier to stop at the bookstore it was alright. My knee hurt all day though, right now is pretty swollen and I can't do much without it bothering me, I guess it's because of the extra-weight added to the extra activity but it still sucks. I hope to get better soon 'cause otherwise I know my dad will make me go to the doctor and I hate doctors. Besides I know that they're going to tell me that I need to lose weight and that I need to exercise more, and I really don't want to hear that again, I know that.
It was really cool that my sister called me today, and she put my niece on the phone and she was like "Isabella say titi" (that's what she says for aunt, which is tia in Spanish) and Isabella would say "titi" and she also imitated a dog, but then all of the sudden you hear my sister "hey! stop eating that, that's mine!", that just made me laugh. Then they put her on the web cam and she throws kisses, and she shows you where her eyes are and puts one finger up when you ask her how old she is. She also dances like crazy, every type of music she hears even if it's from a commercial on tv, she'll dance, it's so unbelievably cute, she's going to give my brother quite the few gray hairs.
Nothing much on the Australian Open today as most of my favorites played yesterday. Roger and Juan Carlos won, but Marat lost. It sucked really, it was an extremely long match, but the good part is that I got to see a couple of hours of Marat goodness, I mean tennis-wise of course (no I don't). It bothers me that they didn't show Roger's match, I mean he was playing Santoro who is one of the most entertaining players out there and by the bits I've seen you can tell that it was a match full of amazing points and they decide to show Blake's match instead. I understand they give privileges to American players, but come on, if it's a boring match and you have the number one player in the world in a very well-played match, wouldn't it make more sense to show that? But whatever I guess here we don't do the more logical things.
Linkin Park went back to touring yesterday and they played Valentine's day for the first time. I've been wanting to hear that song live from a long time and even though the videos are obviously less-than-good quality I enjoyed it. They also went back to playing A place for my head and My December, which are 2 amazing songs. Now I'm really excited to see what set list they do when they come to Nashville. I've been thinking about what would be my must-be-played songs but to be honest I'll love any set-list they play, saying anything else would be lying.
One thing did drive crazy today though, my history teacher. He is nice and all but he tends to go in tangents and sometimes it's hard to understand what he's saying. He also tries to say things that he thinks are funny but that no one really gets and so he laughs by himself and it's sort of awkward. Today we got saved by a fire-drill, I forgot they do those during the first week of class. Last semester I had like one in every single one of my classes, very annoying as they don't stop until everyone is out of the building and a lot of people ignore it because it's just a drill, but today I was happy to hear the stupid alarm.
Memphis is getting like really cold. Today you could see your breath walking around and it's about to get worse during the weekend. I'm terrible with winter clothes because I'm from a much warmer climate. We either have rain or we don't, that's it all year. So as you can imagine my winter clothing is very limited, a couple of sweaters not many jackets. And really here you can't dress that warm because the heat inside the buildings is insanely high, so you feel like you just walked into an oven. I try to dress by layers but I like being comfortable so sometimes that really bothers me.
All in all, I'm happy the weekend is almost here.

Love for the game
So, a couple of friends have been asking me why I find tennis so interesting to watch, and given that I'm in tennis mode thanks to the Australian Open, I thought I'd post about it. Some of my friends tell me that it's really boring to watch the ball go back and forth, and well sometimes it's true. It's one of the reason I don't watch much women's tennis, matches have become so boring as it's not so much about who makes the better shots but who screws up first, and so all you get is this back and forth and endless points that really don't make for much entertainment. But then you get to see matches from players like Roger Federer, where every point is about strategy and about out-playing the other person. It's about constructing the point so that you can beat your opponent. So yeah, some matches can be boring when you have players like Nadal that all they do is put the ball in because they get monotone, but a real tennis match is about making sure you crush your opponent every single point.
But if you want the reason why I started to watch tennis, this should give you an idea:
This is Marat Safin. He's a Russian player who has won 2 Grand Slams. He's the last man other than Roger or Rafa to win one. He's had some issues with injuries but he can beat anybody when he's in form. I love him 'cause he's like I used to be on court, let's just say he's very emotional. Keep in mind he also speaks Spanish very well, which makes me week in the knees.

This is Juan Carlos Ferrero. I think he was my first tennis crush, he moves incredibly fast and has an amazing forehand, with a grip similar to mine. He had an amazing 2003 but then had bad luck with health issues and injuries. Hopefully, he'll have a better 2008.

And well this is Roger, he needs no introduction, and really with a smile like that I don't need to say much much more, do I?

And really I could go on and on, but I don't think I need to. Do you?
