Random Political Ramblings

I've never been one to get into politics. And I know that sounds insanely cliche, but it's true. Back when I lived in Venezuela, I knew I hated Chavez, but that was as far as my involvement went. And I knew I hated him because of how ugly things started to get since the man started his presidency.
When I moved to the U.S., I cared even less. I mean when you go from living in a country where the streets are dirty, traffic is hell, public services don't exist, everything is over priced, you lived scared all the time because the crime rates are the highest you can imagine... and you go to living in a place where things actually work and are clean and organized, you think "well, there's really nothing I can complain about."
I won't lie, I've never liked Bush. Maybe it's because I'm off the school of thought that feels like we need to have a president that's smarter than all of us. Call me crazy, but after coming from seeing an idiot lead a country into disaster, I was hoping here it would be different... Maybe it's because I don't support war for any of the reasons that this administration has claimed. Or maybe I just don't like the guy.
So these past couple of weeks with all the campaigning going on for the November election, I've been kinda forced to know -something- of everything that's going on. So here it is. I don't want another Bush in office for the next 4 years. And I definitely don't want Sarah Palin in a possition in the White House, I'm sorry but someone who claims to know about foreign policy because they're close to Russia is just not my type of politician.
My parents keep telling me that I'm a democrat and this and that, and truth is, I'm not. If anything, most of my views fit more with liberal ideas. But I still like Barack Obama better. I ceirtantly don't agree with everything he says, but I rather have him lead the country than McCain. I was reading this interview and it convinced me even more.
I'll be honest, I don't understand half of what's going on with the financial crisis, (and I do watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report!) and I still felt that his views seem to be much more reasonable than I thought. Maybe I'm being naive, but I actually felt that I was reading something where he wasn't just telling me what I want to hear, and that to me, is quite an accomplishment for a politician.
