Difference.

Pretty much everyone is posting about the inauguartion, huh? At first, I didn't think I was going to watch too much of it, and then I thought I was barely going to watch it at all because I was going to be in class, but it was snowing pretty badly at my house and my boss told me to stay home and not drive in that weather, so I actually watched the whole thing during the day.
And let me tell you, I don't like politics at all. The political situation in Venezuela was what drove my family and me here to Memphis in the first place, so I had a lot of resentment towards that, because when I moved I left a lot behind that I wish I hadn't. So, whenever I hear a politician speaking, I'm very cynical and and I tend to be more critical than a lot of people because I simply learned to believe that the person leading your country should be smart and capable, and politicians today aren't.
But yesterday, when I was listening to Obama's speech, I believed him. I mean for once, it didn't feel like he was trying to paint the world perfect, but like he had goals and that he knows it's going to be a tough road but that we can make it. I could see that he's determined and that he actually has ideas of were he really wants us to go. He's smart and articulate, and I can see that he has the power to inspire people which is such a hard thing to do these days with the hard economic times and people being even more cynical than me. People nowadays don't want to work hard, they want things given to them and that's not the attitude we need right now and I think he got that message across.
People said that his speech was disappointing because it didn't have one theme and it didn't have one line that stood out among others and I couldn't disagree more. We don't have just one problem to concentrate about, and truthfully, he could have never lived up to the expectations everyone had for the words he had to say. He said what he needed to say about where we are, where we're going and what's going to take to get there.
His whole campaign was about change and honestly, I think he can do that. Maybe he won't accomplish everything he wants to but he's already made a difference. I never cared about politics and here I am... and I can say the same thing for students I see around campus wearing an Obama shirt.
I think he has what it takes to be a great president, and I wish him the best of luck in his upcoming term.

Also, on a lighter note, this has got to be the best good looking couple we've had in the White House in recent years, not to mention it's good to have a president that doesn't look absolutely ridiculous dancing:

Why videos of this and not of the speech? Because you can go to cnn.com or pretty much anywhere to see the speech if you want to =P
